A story about our recent cloning of a Giant sequoia famously planted by environmentalist John Muir was featured by the Los Angeles Times in their Science Now section.

The cloning is another in the proud history of Archangel Ancient Tree Archive and its predecessor organization, Champion Tree Project International, in preserving the genetics of iconic and important trees for generations to come. These genetics are archived in multiple locations not only for posterity, but also for scientific study into the future. Countless trees are on the endangered species list, and others are under tremendous threat. Saving these genetics is a calling that only Archangel Ancient Tree Archive is undertaking.

[pl_blockquote cite=”Louis Sahagun – Los Angeles Times”]If all goes according to plan, the first clone nurtured in a Michigan laboratory will be shipped within a year to California for planting at Muir’s homestead, which is now a national historic site about 35 miles northeast of San Francisco, said David Milarch, cofounder of the nonprofit Archangel Ancient Tree Archive.[/pl_blockquote]
